Senior Carlos Arzate, who qualified for state in four events, broke the 1987 school record in the 200-yard freestyle today as he swam in the finals at state in San Antonio.
The previous record, held by Nicky Stewart, a 1988 graduate. The new record by Arzate is 1:57.19 which he set as he placed 13th at state.
Senior Gabryl Alaniz, who broke the school record in the 100-yard butterfly last year, took 10th at state in a time of 57.10.
The 200-yard freestyle relay of Arzate, freshman Logan Cheuvront, junior Austin Peters and Alaniz took eighth overall in a time of 1:37.33.
Arzate took 13th in the 100-yard backstroke took 13th in a time of 1:00.84.
The 400-yard freestyle relay of Arzate, sophomore Donovan Klassen, Peters and Alaniz finished in 11th with a time of 3:37.95, which broke the school record they set a week ago at regionals.
The Indians took 15th place as a team with 49 points.
