Freshman Carolina Hernandez’ animation project has reached the semifinals of the UIL Young Filmmakers contest in the traditional animation category.
Hernandez’s film, Between the Acts, has advanced her to the top 13 in the state in conference 4A.
The semifinals will be judged in the next few weeks, and if Hernandez is placed in the top six she will be able to advance to the state finals as part of the UIL’s Film Festival in Austin on Feb. 25.
Hernandez’s film is about the grief the a family of tumbleweeds, goes through after the mother’s death while the son runs away to be an actor.
“I wanted to do the film in high school,” Hernandez said. “I was in eighth grade and got my friends to voice-act the characters.”
Hernandez film’s runtime is about a minute and 40 seconds. Hernandez has been doing animation for almost four years.
“I really fell in love with it, ” Hernandez said. “I just want to bring out the characters and my passion to animate.”
