The Aqua Tribe competed at the Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association meet in Arlington on Dec. 6.
“Everybody has been improving,” swim Coach Danielle Sims said. “We are a young team, so there is a lot of room for growth.”
Senior Carlos Arzate, who is a two-time state qualifier, said that he has been preparing for competition.
“I will get back to state by continuing to follow my hard work ethic,” Arzate said. “Also I need to be confident in myself.”
Junior Austin Peters, who has also been to state twice, said he has set priorities in order to continue swimming and get back to state.
“Honestly, I just need to pass,” Peters said. “My performance is the same or better than last year.”
On the Maiden side, junior Topanga Corbell said she has seen improvement so far this season.
“I improved a lot in time and speed,” Corbell said, “Those are my main goals when swimming.”
With each meet, the swimmers see improvement.
“My best individual event is the 200-yard individual medley,” senior Jonah Teichroeb said. “I’m adequate at each stroke.”
The swimmers rely on teammates in order to compete in relays and gain confidence.
“My teammates push me to do my best when I go slow,” junior Cheyenne Carter said.“They tell me to go faster and keep up.”
Senior Kevin Neufeld said he receives positive feedback from his teammates.
“They help me count on the 500-yard freestyle,” Neufeld said. “They tell me to keep pushing.”
Sims said state could be in the swimmers’ futures again.
“There is a chance of getting back to state,” Sims said. “If they do the work, then we will absolutely be able to.”
Aqua Tribe will host a home meet tomorrow at 11 a.m.
