The Aqua Tribe will swim in the Monahans meet tomorrow after finishing among the top three teams in Fort Stockton on Oct. 25.
Coach Danielle Sims set a goal for unity and personal growth this season.
“My goal this season is to build team spirit and achieve personal bests,” Sims said. “We aim to improve technique and build a positive attitude.”
Sophomore Dakota Reece said she enjoys the team atmosphere.
“I started swimming because I wanted to be part of a team and make new friends,” Reece said. “What keeps me passionate is the excitement of reaching new goals.”
Junior Topanga Corbell said she plans to improve her times.
“I want to improve my performance this season,” Corbell said. “I plan to refine my technique and increase my training.”
Two-time state qualifier junior Austin Peters said he likes to have a positive mindset.
“I focus on what I will accomplish instead of setbacks I’ve had in the past,” Peters said. “Having a positive mindset helps me clear my mind for when we have a swim meet.”
Senior Gabryl Alaniz, who qualified for two events in the state meet last season, said he plans to work harder.
“My goal is to try and qualify for state championships,” Alaniz said. “My plan is to boost endurance and increase training time to accomplish my goal.”
Junior Topanga Corbell said she enjoys swimming in general.
“I joined swimming for the love of water,” Corbell said. “The team spirit and improving my times is what kept me going.”
Reece said she plans to set minor goals and work harder to accomplish her goals.
“I’m focused on enhancing my performance,” Reece said. “My plan is to set weekly goals and work with my coach.”
Alaniz said he visualizes his goals.
“I like to visualize each race and strategize,” Alaniz said. “To clear my mind, I set racing goals to prepare myself mentally.”
Peters said he likes the challenge to push himself.
“I joined swimming because I love the challenge of racing against the clock,” Peters said. “The passion stays alive with every new goal I accomplish.”
