Maidens take season to region tournament

Going to region tournament– Maidens celebrate with the quarterfinal trophy after defeating Hereford, 61-53, on Feb. 19 in the Rip Griffin Center at Lubbock Christian University.

The 25-5 Maiden basketball team will face Bridgeport (20-8) in the region semifinal at 5 p.m. Feb. 27 at Jim Ned High School.

Coach Tri Danley’s team took the region quarterfinal win over number 18 Hereford, 61-53, on a 31-10 run in the fourth quarter.

The Maidens were down by one with 25 seconds remaining when senior forward Robin Franklin forced a turnover which led to a steal by senior forward Taylor Carter, who got the assist on a lay up by senior forward Macey Duncan. The Whitefaces were then forced to foul to stop the clock, giving the Maidens free throws. The Maidens made 17 of 20 free throws in the quarter.

Duncan led Maiden scoring with 21, followed by junior guard Xoe Rosalez with 17 and freshman guard Londyn Shain with 14.
