The Indian golf team will start their season in Monahans on Friday and Saturday.

“In practice we are targeting the short game right now and doing a lot of drills targeting inside of 100 yards and putting,” Coach Mitch Shain said. “We are in one of the toughest golf districts in the state, so we need to put in lots of focused work every day in order to achieve the goals these young men have set.”

The team faces reigning district champion Andrews, which represents a target for the season.

The team last year’s state qualifier senior Luke Wimmer, who is still in basketball.

“I am okay missing a few tournaments and practices due to basketball,” Wimmer said. “I realize that I am a multi-sport athlete and when one season is finished, I move on to the next. Coming into the season as a state qualifier puts pressure on me, but I am going to just go into the season and try to perform as well as I did last year.”
