Get buckets Senior post Kelea Pool adds another two points during second quarter play against Cooper on Dec. 5. Pool had 20 points in the Maiden win.

The Maiden basketball team will take on Coronado in the main gym at 6 p.m. tonight.

The Maidens come off a 48-38 road win over Cooper on Dec. 8.

Senior posts Kelea Pool and Brittany Kelly combined for 34 points.

“I thought we played well,” Kelly said. “I think we are all starting to realize what kind of team we can become if we just put our minds to it and stick to the game plan, day in and day out.”

The win moves the Maiden record to 6-6.

Senior guard Kendall Freeman, who was out most of last basketball season and volleyball season as well has come back into the line up, scoring eight points against the Lady Pirates.

“I really feel like I am getting back into the swing of the things coming off my knee injury,” Freeman said. “There are days that are tough, but the more I am on it and practicing, I feel like the stronger it gets.”

Coach Leland Bearden hopes the Maidens remain injury-free.

“Having all the girls healthy right now really feels good,” Bearden said. “Last year at this time we had a lot of injuries to deal with.”

Senior guard Lindsey Wimmer is also playing after missing last season.

“It really helps when we have everyone healthy on the team,” Wimmer said. “It ensures that we can run our offensive sets and really execute on both sides of the ball.”

The Maidens, who were co-district champions last year, approach the district season again.

“I really do believe we can win another district title,” Kelly said, “but we just need to take one day at a time and just stay in the present.”
