The Maiden volleyball team is currently tied for second in district with Fort Stockton with three losses a piece and only two district games remaining.

The Maidens took a much-needed win over Greenwood, 25-15, 25-13, 25-19, on Oct. 20, taking their district record to 21-7 and their district mark to 5-3.

Junior outside hitter Brogan Purser led the team Tuesday night with 10 serves, 19 digs and 16 attacks.

“I really felt like we performed tonight and did what we needed to do,” Purser said. “I think the team is starting to realize that we are going to have to play well to make the playoffs.”

The Maidens cannot afford to drop a match and lose position in the district rankings.

“We need to finish strong,” Coach Jaqueline Horton said.

With the injuries to senior hitter Kendall Freeman, the Maidens have begun to rely on their bench.

“I think our team is really coming together as one,” senior libero Lindsey Wimmer said. “We are starting to realize our potential and hopefully finish district on a positive note and see how far we can go in the playoffs.”

The Maidens will host the Andrews Lady Mustangs at 1 p.m. on Saturday, which is also Parent Night and the last home game.

“I am looking forward to Saturday,” senior defensive specialist Abby Navarro said. “It feels good to know you have your parents supporting you.”
