The Maiden volleyball team will face off tomorrow against the Frenship Lady Tigers in Wolfforth as preseason play winds down. Coming off a win over Lubbock Monterey on Sept. 15, the Maiden record moves to 16-13, which brought a sense of confidence to the Maidens.

“I really feel like we are starting to hit our stride wrapping up non-district, heading into district play,” senior libero Lindsey Wimmer said. “We are finally starting to come together as a team.”

The Maidens defeated the Lady Plainsmen in straight games, 25-9, 25-17, 25-19.

“I was really proud of how our girls worked harder than Monterey Tuesday night,” Coach Jaqueline Horton said. “The girls are really starting to come together as a team, and our younger girls are stepping up. I couldn’t be more proud of our seniors for taking leadership of this team.”

With the last year’s district most valuable player, senior Kendall Freeman, out with a knee injury, the Maidens have really had some big shoes to fill. Younger players like junior hitter Brogan Purser, who had 15 digs and 15 kills in Tuesday’s win have had to step up. District play begins in Monahans on Sept. 26.

“I think if we stay in the present and don’t look too far forward, I think we will be fine,” senior setter Lexee Shain said. “I think Monahans will be our toughest opponent in district play, but if we stick to our game plan, we will be alright.”
