Going left Senior guard Sabraun Adams gets a layup on a fast break during district play against Andrews on Jan. 21. The Indians defeated the Mustangs, 61-31.

The Indians remain undefeated in district moving into tonight’s matchup with the Eagles in Pecos.

The Indians took out Andrews, 61-31 on Jan. 21, taking their overall record to 14-8. Junior guard Brennen Dominguez said teamwork is how the Indians pulled away from the Mustangs.

“We played as a team,” Dominguez said. “We work hard no matter what.”

As the season has progressed, the Indians have learned more about each other and from their new coach.

“We usually get in a lot of shots the day before and the day of the game,” senior post Rocky Loewen said. “That way we are ready for the game. We just try to keep our intensity high and stay focused throughout practice.”

The most challenge in district comes from Monahans who ended the Indian play-off run last season and perreniel rival Andrews.

“The Mustangs have a lot of height, and they’re long,” senior guard Sabraun Adams said. “They have weapons. They don’t just have one guy that can shoot or drive. They have a lot of guys who can handle the ball.”

Coach David Williams is encouraged with the progress the Indians are making. “The guys are doing so well and working hard,” Williams said. “Their confidence is high. The sky is the limit as far as district goes.”

With these things the team plans on going far in the playoffs. “We work our tails off in practice,” senior post Jaxon Williams said. “It pays off in the games.”
