The Indian basketball team begins its season tomorrow in the main gym at noon against Snyder. The team faces new challenges in the form of a new district, new coaches and the football team making playoffs, causing holes in the lineup for several weeks.

“The football team making the playoffs just means that I haven’t seen the kids who will be on the team play yet,” new Head Coach David Williams said. “We just have to wait for them to be done, so we can get them in there with the other boys. It’s always a positive thing when another team makes the playoffs though.”

Williams, who came from Frisco, looked forward to his return to Seminole.

“I’m just looking forward to being back home,” Williams said. “Coaching in Seminole has been a dream of mine, and getting to be a part of the tradition is great.”

The Indians move away from a district with Estacado and into one with Monahans, who knocked Seminole out of the area round last season.

“I like the new district,” senior post Rocky Loewen said. “It’ll be easier, but it may cause problems in the playoffs because we’ll play teams who are tougher than in our district.”

Despite the absence of key players, the team is working hard to advance far into the playoffs in the future.

“The guys who aren’t gone with football are doing a great job,” Williams said. “The sky is the limit for as far as this year goes.”
