dens will meet Dalhart on Monday.

The Maidens will be back in the playoffs with a 19-8 overall record and a 6-4 district record.

“The girls have responded well after last year,” Coach Leland Bearden said. “They have been playing really well.”

The Maidens take the confidence of an 80-15 win over Andrews on Feb. 5 with them as they face Dalhart at West Texas A&M on Monday at 5 p.m. (Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students.)

“I don’t know much about them [Dalhart] yet,” Bearden said on Wednesday after the flip. “I do know they have some good post players.”

According to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll,  Dalhart is No. 21 in 3A with a 24-4 overall record and a 8-0 district record.

The Maidens still feel rejuvenated and ready.

“It has been an awesome season,” senior guard Morgan Jones said. “Lord willing we make it to where we want to be [Austin].”

The Maidens have been successful with one year of Bearden’s coaching style.

“It’s the polar opposite of what I’ve known basketball to be,” junior guard Madison Burtch said. “Our success has really boosted our confidence.”

The Maidens do still need to polish their game before Monday.

“We need to stop turning the ball over,” Bearden said.

The Maidens will play Breckenridge in a practice game at Hermaleigh High School tonight at 6 p.m.
