Getting by– Senior guard Michael Garza runs the offense against Andrews on Feb. 4. Garza had eight points in the 55-43 Indian victory.

The Indians will play Shallowater at 7:30 p.m. in the Mustang gym, then close out district against Cooper at home on Tuesday.

The Indians secured a play-off berth with a 55-43 win over Andrews on Tuesday.

“Right now we are tied for third,” Coach Paul Page said. “The best we can do is third over all.”

The tie is with Cooper, so the tie will be broken on Tuesday.

The Indians were region quartefinalists last year so their expectations for this year are high.

“Our goal is to go to regional finals,” senior forward Blue Franklin said. “We have to work hard and play as a team to get there this year.”

Play-off scenarios will leave little room for error.

“It’s all about the winning next game,” Page said. “Practices involve game planning and preparing for Shallowater and Cooper next week.”

Despite ending a 40-game district win streak, the Indians must fight back to advance.

“Tough losses have been demoralizing for the team,” Franklin said. “We just have to step back up and get to the level we usually play and not where we have been.”

Getting to the regional tournament will be a challenge.

“It’s going to be difficult because our opponent’s season will be on the line, the same as ours,” senior guard Ty Froman said. “I know for a fact that we want it more than anyone else does.”

The Indians are 15-9 on the season and 4-4 in district.
