Take that Sophomore Judy Klassen returns the ball during doubles play with partner sophomore Michelle Guevara on Oct. 8. The team fell to Lubbock Christian 8-4.

The tennis team members ended the fall season at Lubbock Trinity Oct. 17. They now prepare for the spring season and the tough district they will have to face.

“We have one really good team in the district,” Coach Rhonda Burns said. “There are also two good teams, so we need to be ready to play.”

Burns said the Indians and Maidens had improved over the fall season.

“They have gotten a lot stronger,” Burns said. “They are good listeners who want to get better.”

The players, however, still saw a need for improvement.

“I need to work on my backhand,” freshman Monique Zamora said. “I lob to much with it and need to make a grip change.”

Freshman Debby Froese also said she could do better.

“I need to get better at moving my feet,” Froese said. “I’m not quick enough.”

Burns said the more experienced players like juniors Easton Swinnea and Aubry Owen have become leaders.

“It gets very stressful at times,” Swinnea said. “Once they start to listen, it gets easier and things flow smoother.”

Owen said she is determined to do better in the spring.

“My goal is to beat Andrews,” Owens said. “They are the one team we haven’t beaten.”

The tennis team will resume play in the spring.
