Oh. What. Fun., which came out Dec. 3, is a Christmas comedy about family dynamics.
The main focus of the movie is the mom played by Michelle Pfeiffer (Age of Innocence, Witches of Eastwick, Dangerous Liaisons) who feels under appreciated for all that she does during the holiday season.
The movie focuses on conveying the message of mothers being under appreciated, especially during the holiday season. It focused so hard on that message that often the comedy aspect of the movie gets lost.
Although there were some funny moments, I felt that a lot of the moments that were supposed to make you laugh just fell flat and weren’t that original.
As far as Christmas movies go there are not many plots one can do without repeating the many common Christmas movie tropes. Still I would argue that a common and solid plot would be better than a plot that felt empty and left me wishing more had happened.
At the beginning, Oh. What. Fun. references other Christmas movies which in some cases which can work well, but in this case, it was nothing but a reminder of better options to watch.
The actors that were cast in this movie are amazing actors. All the actors gave great performances despite the below par material they were given to work with. Considering the amazing cast I wish they could’ve had a better plot. The cast included Dennis Leary (Ice Age franchise, Demolition Man), Felicity Jones (Rogue One, Inferno), Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives, Devious Maids), Dominic Sessa (Now You See Me, Now You Don’t, The Holdovers), Jason Schwartzman (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Asteroid City)
After all is said, the movie wasn’t terrible, but in my opinion, it’s worse to see a boring movie rather than a bad one. At least a person will remember a bad movie or maybe get some laughs out of how bad it was.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this movie although it’s not the worst Christmas movie out there. I just thought that a movie with the title Oh. What. Fun. would seem to be a very different movie than the one I watched.
