The UIL Academic team took the sweepstakes trophy at Texas Tech’s March Madness meet on March 7 with 304 points.
In calculator applications, senior Eva Thiessen took first overall as well as first place in the senior division.
In current issues and events, senior Carlee Cottrell took second place.
In literary criticism, the team of senior Serena Wiebe, freshman Logan Wright, junior Logan Lee and junior Anaiah Beydoun took first overall with Weibe in first, Wright in second, Lee in third and Beydoun in fifth.
In mathematics, the team of Thiessen, juniors Avery Wood and Susana Payan-Quintana took first overall with Thiessen in first individually, followed by Wood in fourth and Payan-Quintana in fifth.
In the 11th grade mathematics division, Wood was second and Payan-Quintana took third, while Thiessen took first in the senior division.
In number sense, the team of Thiessen, juniors Jaxon Hand and Mason Rochell took first overall with Thiessen in first, while Hand and Rochell tied for fourth.
In the 10th grade math division, sophomore Carolina Harms took third.
In the 11th grade math division, Hand was first and Rochell was second.
In the 12th grade math division, Thiessen took first.
In ready writing, senior Fedra Ortiz was second.
In social studies, Cottrel took sixth.
The journalism team took first overall.
In copyediting, Beydoun was first, senior Melissa Gutierrez Tarango was third and Payan-Quintana took fifth.
In editorial writing, junior Mattie Hice was first and Gutierrez Tarango was second.
In feature writing, Hice was second and Gutierrez Tarango was third.
In headline writing, Hice was first while Gutierrez Tarango was third.
In news writing, Beydoun took first, Gutierrez Tarango was second and Payan-Quintana was fifth.
The academic team will go to district on March 24 in Monahans, while the speech and debate events will be on April 1.
