The UIL academic team took sweepstakes at Texas Tech’s Fearless Champions meet on Feb. 14 with 223 points.

In mathematics, the team of Thiessen, junior Avery Wood and sophomore Jacob Gonzales took first overall. Individually Thiessen took first overall with junior Avery Wood in third. Thiessen was first in the senior division, while Wood took first in the junior division. Gonzales was third in the sophomore division.
In number sense, the team of Thiessen, senior Tristan Stixrud and junior Jaxon Hand took first overall. Individually, Thiessen was first, Stixrud took third. In the senior division, Thiessen was first. In the junior division, Hand was second. In the sophomore division, Gonzales was third and Carolina Harms was fourth.
In ready writing, junior Camila Jimenez took second, and senior Fedra Ortiz was fifth.
The journalism team of senior Melissa Gutierrez Tarango, senior Mia Cowan and junior Mattie Hice took first overall.
In news writing, Gutierrez Tarango took fourth, while Cowan was sixth.
In editorial writing, Hice was third, Cowan was fifth, and Gutierrez Tarango was sixth.
In headline writing, Hice took first, Cowan was second, and Gutierrez Tarango was fourth.
