The Indian and Maiden golf teams are competing in Big Spring today.

The Indians and Maidens both took eighth place in separate meets last weekend. The Indians competed at the Monahans Sandhill Tournament, and the Maidens competed in the San Angelo Tournament.

“This wasn’t the best start,” Coach Mitch Shain said. “We will keep practicing and improve from here.”

The Maidens had 859 strokes overall with two-time regional qualifier senior Kayley Mull as 10th medalist individual.

“My goals for this year would be to qualify for regionals and state,” Mull said. “Our team is very young now that the seniors from last year have graduated, but we are still very motivated and determined.”

Shain said Mull has state potential.

“She has a little way to go before we think about state,” Shain said. “She just needs to eliminate the minor mistakes she makes and keep practicing.”

The Indians had 739 strokes overall.

“I would like to improve on everything,” sophomore Keith Cheuvront said. “I want to know where the ball is going every time I touch it.”

According to Shain both teams need to keep uniformity in their play.

“In practice, we play pretty well,” Shain said. “It hasn’t been carried over to tournaments yet. We just have to practice more to become consistent.”
