HOMECOMING 2019: Booster Club and student council sponsor events all week

BLAZING LETTERS–A flaming SHS burns to start off the damp bonfire at Gaines County Park on Oct. 2.

The “Lights, Camera, Action”-themed homecoming week ran with spirit days all week from pajamas to celebrity look-alikes.

While the bonfire featured a new burning SHS, it also featured a downpour. The parade, as well,  received rain but cleared as students rode soggy entries down the route.

After vocational students,  junior Delaney Brown, junior Jarell Banman and sophomore Jose Cornejo presented national, state and high school flags, senior cheerleaders Erin Lentz and Braylee Dufour sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” as a duet.

The pep rally introduced the homecoming court of freshman Isabella Parkey, sophomore Kenia Klassen, junior M’Kenzi Rodriguez, seniors Kassey Gallardo, Katy Beth Lashaway and Landry Youngblood, escorted by football players.

Alumni from as far back as the 1960’s were recognized as well as the class of 2030 second graders, who were featured guests.

Current student body president senior Madison Dyck gave a speech about the success of KFC’s Harlen Sanders, while student body president from 2010 public relations specialist Stephanie Ross gave a speech about high school on a remote feed from Boston.

Senior Queen Kassey Gallardo was crowned at halftime of the 26-15 loss to Levelland.
