FFA leadership teams advance to area

The FFA leadership teams will travel to area competition in Big Spring tomorrow after qualifying in district competition on Nov. 10. At the district competition in Denver City the local chapter walked away with several area winners.

“I feel that we did well,” said sophomore Jarrot Foote, who competed with agricultural issues and radio broadcasting. “There were little kinks that we need to get worked out before area gets here, but overall, I think that we did pretty well.”

The success left members with positive feelings about the next level. Senior Sawyer Jenkins competed in agricultural issues and radio broadcasting as well.

“I feel positive about our performance,” Jenkins said. “I feel that when we were answering the questions, and we sounded like we knew what we were talking about. We answered them very intelligently.”

Senior Alec Winfrey took first place in a contest he is very familiar with having competed in it for several years.

“I had a perfect score in job interview,” Winfrey said. “I dropped no points.”

Even though they did well, team members still see room for improvement.

“We just need to work on memorizing for ag issues,” Jenkins said. “We can do that by the time area gets here. We’re shooting to win.”

Senior Ryder Mata, who was part of the agricultural issues team and the senior quiz team, had mixed feelings about his events.

“I think that we could have done better in quiz,” Mata said. “We did the best we could in ag issues though.”

The FFA will be competing at Area 2 tomorrow in Big Spring. The top two places in each event will advance to state.

“I’m nervous about going to state,” Foote said. “We have to memorize the script for ag issues, and if you mess up, it’s not good.”

The team feels pumped up and ready to win.

“I’m not nervous at all,” Jenkins said. “I am optimistic about what’s going to happen.”
