The new Five Nights At Freddy’s movie is based on the FNAF games. It is rated PG-13 due to its strong violent content, bloody images, and language which makes sense because it is classified as a horror movie.
Both the game and the movie are set in the 80’s restaurant Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, which is a play on Chuck E. Cheese.
The movie starts with the main character Mike, who is in desperate need of a job to provide for his sister Abby. He gets hired by William Afton as a night security guard for the pizzaria.
One major difference in the movie is the character Mike’s movements are different from the first edition of the game. In the movie, Mike sleeps through the first night, but in the game he has to be awake and aware because of the animatronic characters from the restaurant. Naturally the characters would have to be more developed to make a game into a full-length movie.
Night two is a recollection of a memory. In this “dream” Mike gets injured and when he awakes, the injury is real. He also meets Vanessa outside.
Night three centers on Mike bringing his sister Abby to work because he cannot find a babysitter. When both Mike and Abby fall asleep, Abby is awakened by a sudden noise. This is when she meets Bonnie, Chica, Freddy and Foxy, the anamatronics, whom she believes to be her friends just like night three in the game. Mike is warned by Vanessa not to bring his sister back to the pizzeria.
On night four, Abby has formed a bond with the animatronics and makes them feel like they are kids again.
On night five the animatronics come to Mike in a dream and make a deal to take Abby. When Mike realizes what he’s done he seeks Vanessa’s help. This is where the back story of the pizzeria is revealed and the murder from the 80’s is recounted.
At this point I won’t reveal any more plot points. Although the movie was based mainly on game one, it had many different pieces of lore.
Many of the characters from this movie have different names and locations than the original game. I suppose change had to be made to give it a more interesting plot.
Overall, I enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to anyone who may or may not know the lore of The Five Nights At Freddy’s franchise.
