The track teams will compete in Monahans on March 4.

The teams competed in their first meet on Feb. 26 in Pecos. The varsity Indians placed eighth as a team, the JV Maidens placed first as a team in the meet, and the JV Indians took fifth.

“I could not be more proud of this group of young ladies,” Maiden Coach Ty Palmer said. “They did an outstanding job and competed very well in every event we had people in.”

Both teams have been training for several weeks, while junior pole vaulter Alex Hindman has been participating in indoor meets all year.

“We put a lot of hard work in out there,” Hindman said. “Every day we practice and improve.”

The Maidens had several first place finishers including sophomore Logan Jaquez who took first in the long jump, 300-meter hurdles and 100-meter dash.

“It was a great feeling finishing in first,” Jaquez said. “I’ve put in a lot of work and its nice to see it paying off.”
