Alvidrez qualifies for third trip to state in powerlifting

Three-peat– Junior Andrew Alvidrez dead lifts in full Superman attire at the home meet in February. Alvidrez took first place at the regional meet to qualify for state for a third year in a row.

Junior Andrew Alvidrez led his team to a seventh place finish at the regional powerlifting meet in Sundown on March 8.

Alvidrez will make his third appearance at state as the region champion in the 148-pound weight class. He lifted 1,270 pounds, 190 pounds more than Snyder’s Jordan Davis in second position. Alvidrez squatted 505 pounds, bench pressed 300 pounds and dead lifted 465 pounds. Alvidrez will compete at the state meet in Abilene on March 22.

In the 114-pound category–freshman Peter Padilla was seventh lifting 645 total pounds.

In the 123-pound category–junior Salvador Antillon was third (state runner up) lifting 835 total pounds.

In the 132-pound category–junior Sawyer Jenkins was fourth lifting 945 total pounds, and senior Michael Condarco was seventh lifting 900 total pounds.

In the 165-pound category–senior Ramon Juarez was seventh lifting 1,040 total pounds, and senior Logan Gersbach was eighth lifting 1,025 total pounds.

In the 181-pound category–senior George Klassen was fourth lifting 1,155 total pounds.
