Realignment changes UIL districts and numbers

The UIL changes that came down on Monday significantly altered the look of next year’s district which in reality is two districts.

In football Seminole, Estacado and Levelland join Pampa and Borger.

In basketball and most other sports, Seminole and Andrews join Fort Stockton, Monahans, Greenwood and Pecos.

Seminole will be classified as a 4A after UIL added an additional 6A division which became necessary when six-man schools took the 1A classification.

Perennial rival Cooper moved up one division into the new 5A in a district with Abilene Cooper, Plainview, San Angelo Lake View and Lubbock High.

Lamesa moves into the new 4A division grouped with Levelland, Estacado, Snyder, Sweetwater and Big Spring for basketball.

The main difference seems to be in travel time, since in football travel goes farther north, and in basketball, etc., travel goes farther southwest.
