Quarterback junior Grant Petty takes guidance from his fullback blocker, junior Dustin Lira, to gain yardage against Idalou on Sept. 6. Petty was the leading rusher for the Indians with 91 on 21 carries in the 21-7 loss to the Wildcats.

A lack of first downs in the second half contributed to the Indians’ 21-7 loss to Idalou on the grass of the Wildcats’ Reddell Field on Sept. 6.

Idalou rushed for 163 yards on 37 carries and three touchdowns, while the Indians scored only once at the end of the second quarter on a 17-yard rush by junior quarterback Grant Petty. Junior kicker Dustin Lira booted in the extra point.

Petty was the leading rusher for the Indians with 21 carries for 91 yards while junior running back/quarterback Sabraun Adams had five carries for 80 yards. Petty assumed much of the quarterback duties late in the game after junior quarterback Jarett Johnson was sidelined with a twisted ankle.

Senior safety Anthony Sharko had a 10-yard interception, and junior safety Kason Rosalez also snagged an interception for four yards.

After the game, Coach Chris Burtch praised the Indians’ efforts.

“This was a war,” Burtch said. “They gutted it out…I’m really pleased with them. Only 25 guys were suited up tonight…I’m proud of them.”
