The cheerleading squad competed in the University Interscholastic League Spirit Championships on Jan. 14.

The squad scored a 51.35 in the fight song portion, 44.9 in the band chant portion and 57.35 in the crowd leading portion for a combined score of 153.6.

While the squad did not make the finals, sponsor Randee Cope sees the experience as one to build on since only four of the squad had ever been to competition before.

“It was definitely good because with two new sponsors, we learned what the judges were looking for,” Cope said. “We can apply it to next year’s routines for competition.”
