Academics competes at Texas Tech ‘Fearless Champions’ meet

The academic team scored 166 points in competition at the Texas Tech “Fearless Champions” meet on Feb. 24.

In accounting, senior Antonio Arreola Lechuga took first place.

In number sense, senior Courtney Blair took 10th in the senior division.

In calculator applications, senior Jesus Ayala took ninth and Blair was 12th in the senior division. Sophomore Eleny Macias was eighth in the sophomore division.

In spelling and vocabulary, sophomore Jeremy Lawrence took first.

In social studies, sophomore Aubrey Hewitt took third.

In mathematics, the team of Hewitt, junior Zachary Fehr and Ayala took third place overall. Ayala was eighth and Blair was ninth in the senior division. In the junior division, Fehr was second and Early took ninth. In the sophomore division, Hewitt took fourth.

In ready writing, junior Alexandra Klassen took second.

In literary criticism, Klassen took first.

In science, the team of Ayala, junior Carson Early and Blair took second overall. Ayala took second in biology. Ayala took second in the senior division, while Blair was seventh. Early took fourth in the junior division, while Fehr was sixth. Macias took fourth in the sophomore division.

The journalism team of senior Anna Teichroeb and junior Dusty Barron took second overall with 84 points.

In news writing, Teichroeb took second and Barron took fifth.

In feature writing, Barron was third and Teichroeb was fifth.

In editorial writing, Teichroeb was second and Barron was fifth.

In headline writing, Barron was first and Teichroeb was second.
