Five freshmen made the junior high all-region choir at Abell Junior High in Midland on 10-15.
Freshman Tammy Tran took first chair in Soprano I, while freshman Easton Swinnea was fifth chair in Tenor I. Freshman Victoria Phillips was fourth chair in Soprano II, freshman Sierra Talamantes 12th chair in Soprano I and freshman Aliyah Hawkins was fifth chair in Soprano II.
Eight high school choir members were selected for the all-region choir during auditions on Oct. 1 at Permian High School. Six will advance to pre-area tryouts on Nov. 17 in Odessa.
Sophomore Blue Franklin took third chair and freshman Sawyer Jenkins took 15th chair in Bass I.
Junior Elijah Becker took fourth chair in Tenor II.
Senior Matraca Penner took fourth chair, senior Kameran Beaty was 12th chair and freshman Arin Hindman was 19th chair in Alto II.
Senior Mason Griffin took sixth chair in Tenor I.
Sophomore Alexis Hastings took 10th chair in Alto I.
Franklin, Becker, Griffin, Penner, Beaty and Hastings chaired high enough to continue in the all-state process at pre-area tryouts.
Both groups will perform in Midland on Nov. 5 at the all-region concert held at either the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center or Midland Lee High School.
