Three cross-examination debate teams will compete in the district meet on Feb. 2 in Andrews.
Last year’s team of graduates Garret Jones and Ryan Wallace took first in district and advanced to state with senior Reed Chappell and junior Haylee Dodson in third. Chappell and Dodson are determined that they will not stay home this year.
“This year we are going to try hard,” Dodson said. “We’ve done tons of research, and we have a solid case.”
Other teams competing for SHS include junior D.J. Rickman/sophomore Trey Dodson and sophomores Kevin Wallace/Zeth Henson.
The competition will revolve around this year’s topic: Resolved: The United States government should substantially reduce military and/or police presence in one or more of the following: Japan, Kuwait, South Korea, Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan.
