Jack Black is quirkily funny (as always) as horror writer R.L. Stine, who has to bring all of his creations (creatures, demons, ghouls, you name it) back to their manuscripts after they are accidentally set free by his new neighbor, portrayed quite well by Dylan Minnette.

I saw the film in 3D, but I would suggest not seeing it this way, as it takes away from the frantic story and tries to make you focus on the CGI-animated creatures only when they are coming toward you. This is a laugh-out-loud comedy with a low level creep factor and a cute love story that tries to be from either a John Hughes film or a John Green novel.

It doesn’t take itself too seriously, so when you get the chance to see it, have fun and enjoy those loveable characters (and creatures, demons, ghouls, you get the picture).
