It’s truly wonderful to get to wear new clothing. Everybody looks and feels better. Even the smell of new clothes, with the exception of stinky new jeans, is like opening something that smells like new plastic. Ahh, now that is a good smell. But, is the feeling worth it when you must spend what seems like forever in the same store trying to find the perfect top? The only thing that might make it less annoying is the compliments I get when I wear a new outfit.
The school dress code makes it a teeny, tiny bit difficult to find appropriate clothing, but, hey, it’s better that I look like I respect myself than look like I put on the first thing in my “I’m-giving-these-away-because-they-no-longer-fit” stash of designated painting clothes.
As nice as it would be to take five minutes to get dressed, school uniforms are something I’m glad we don’t have. As far as I know, I am quite capable of dressing myself without governmental intervention. It’s also nice getting to wear different colors every day. For that matter, if SOME people could just look in the mirror and see how ridiculous they look, then we wouldn’t even need a dress code!!! BUT, I digress.
The overall atmosphere of shopping is exhausting. It’s a challenge finding stuff that isn’t against the dress code.
Jeans all seem to come preworn with holes and frays. I have to wear my jeans quite a few times before I actually like wearing them because inevitably after they are washed, they are too tight, too short, etc.
When I see a pair of jeans that are the style or color I want in the store, ironically they seem to be in every size but mine. Looking through racks and piles is just not as fun as the movies make it seem. Especially when there is the possible competition of another shopper my size near me. There is no way I’m settling for a figure/bladder squeezing size or size so big that pajama bottoms are intimidated by it.
While I’m on the subject of pants, I don’t know what it is about underwear that makes boys think “Hmmm, if I sort of pull my boxers out of my pants… girls will think, ‘Hey that’s good looking’.” I don’t want to see your underwear! This doesn’t attract females…It makes us wonder if you have a wedgie.
When I get to the racks of shirts to buy, it seems that the cute, dressy ones are always out of dress code. Personally I don’t like to overdo my daily look with too much dressy stuff. I try to keep an average every day look, and I’m not going to buy a shirt that requires a jacket to cover up dress code offending straps. Why buy a cute shirt if you are just going to have to cover it up because this defeats the point.
Shopping is a way of life, but how can something so simple create so many problems. Stress, neck and back pain not to mention pain to the wallet. It’s such a hassle to look good AND stay in dress code.
