This month I got the opportunity to play two games and review them for you. Playing video games for a grade is a tough assignment, but I do it all for you, the readers.
If your idea of a fun time is playing a game as a little hacky-sack character, Little Big Planet 2 is your cup of tea. This wasn’t my first choice to play for my review, but I’m glad I did. It isn’t as fun with only one person, but with more than one, it turns into a party. My friend and I spent hours getting our “Sackboys” through the multiple levels.
We rode on robotic hamsters, rabbits and more creations from the minds of the developers. If Playstation Network hadn’t been down, we could have played on the millions of creations that other players had spent hours making.
We tried to make a level, but it turned into a session of making helmets that shoot flaming swords at each other and fighting. That’s the beauty of Little Big Planet 2, you can make just about anything you want if you have the mental capacity and patience to craft it. My friend wanted to make a manatee, but he didn’t have the patience to do it.
Also you can change the material and clothes that your character wears to make him or her your very own “person.” My character was a depiction of an Asian railroad worker in the 1920’s. I had yellow-tinted skin, a Fu Manchu mustache, a kimono-type outfit and tiny shoes.
The downside to this game was the absence of Playstation Network. If it was still up and available to be used by the community, this game would be a perfect 10. Sources say it should be back fully by May 31. It was still fun to make levels or play through the campaign.
The campaign, from what I could tell, (my friend couldn’t stop himself from playing before I got to his house) is about your Sackboy trying to gather people to defeat a creature called the Negativitron who is of course set on destroying their world.
The second game I am reviewing is Crysis 2, which, I think, is the best game I have ever played. The point of the game is to save the world from an invasion by an alien race called the Ceph. They are a violent group of creatures who have intense weapons and heavy armor that takes a while to shoot through.
The campaign took a good 10 to 12 hours, and it could take even more time if you are the type of person who wants to sit in the shadows with a cloak and snipe everything before storming your wreckage.
That is also one of the great features of the game. The character you play, Alcatraz, has a nanosuit which can make him stronger, cloak him, or harden and make him less impervious to bullets. However you choose to play the game, it will let you.
You can run in with a heavy machine gun and go Rambo on the bad guys or you can sneak by without anyone realizing you were there. I chose a medley of the two. If I got noticed, I turned on my armor and aimed for the head. Otherwise, I sneaked up behind my target and performed a stealth kill.
I can’t comment on the online play of Crysis 2 because of the hacker who shut down Playstation Network. However, I have heard from people who play on Xbox Live that it is fun.
The downside to Crysis 2 is the foul language, violence, and the blood (all of which there is plenty), but if you are over the age of 16, I think you can handle it.
Little Big Planet 2 is my choice of game for anyone because anyone can enjoy it and there is nothing M for mature about it.
If you can buy mature-rated games and enjoy shooting aliens or people that are trying to kill you, pick up Crysis 2.
