Today we have a special edition of the gaming column. I got to play a game I had never played before, and I won a free lunch from it. The game of the month was Just Dance. I played it at the Wii Dance Off at the Gaines County Library. It is part of their attempt to get more high school kids to come to the county library. I would have loved for more people to have come so I could have beaten more people at something I am normally horrible at–dancing.
It is a game where you look like a fool no matter how hard you try not to; however, it is extremely hard not to be happy while playing it. The songs are catchy (I was singing “Heart of Glass” by Blondie for a couple of hours after we left), the dance moves are fun to do and being with friends is always a positive thing.
We showed up, and Cindy Garcia, the lady who ran the dance off, greeted us at the door and was very excited for us to be there. She showed us the game and let us go at it. At first I competed against Jennifer Hughes at an easy song so we could learn how to play and quickly found out that I am a beast at it.
After a few rounds of doing songs that I chose, Jennifer decided she could beat me if she played the most girly song on the game. She chose “WannaBe” by the Spice Girls and she and Katie Garcia laughed at the look of disappointment on my face until the song started, and I wrecked shop. They were thoroughly surprised and begged me to put it in my column. So there it is.
When it was clear that I would win, they made me do a dance alone. I chose “Dare” by The Gorillaz. The moves were surprisingly difficult, and I spent most of the time with a stupid look on my face because I was confused about how the heck I was supposed to do them.
About an hour into the dance off, they made me dance to “Heart of Glass”. After half of the song listening to Katie and Jennifer complain that I wasn’t getting into the dance, I pulled out the big guns and started moving my hips. Yes, it was probably the greatest thing they had ever seen, and I’m almost positive that they will remember it forever and might even tell their children and their children’s children about The Great Jack Cagle shaking his hips to an old girly rock song.
We finally finished the dance off and Cindy went and got us some Capri-Suns and stamped my coupon for a free meal at Mireya’s. She thanked us for coming and told us the next event will be March 24. I will be going back to defend my title as dance-off master, and I hope to see more people there. That’s right, I’m calling you out.
Overall, it was possibly the most fun thing I have done in a while, and I highly recommend going to the next one. Just Dance is a fun game, and it is always fun to watch your friends struggle to dance when they don’t realize they chose a song with a three star difficulty, which is the hardest level.
