The tennis team took third behind first place Brownfield and second place Monahans on the SHS courts on Sept. 22. Lubbock Trinity took fourth, Greenwood was fifth and a combined home-schooled team was sixth.
In women’s singles, junior Aracely Avila took second in bracket one, falling to Kaley Kevil of Brownfield 4-2. Junior Graciela Segovia won consolation in bracket two, defeating Daniela Matlacuatzi of Monahans 6-3, 6-1. Junior Alicia Villarreal took first in bracket three, defeating Sabrina Wolf of Monahans 0-6, 6-4, 10-8. Sophomore Aubry Owens took first in bracket four, defeating Brooklyn Ryan of Brownfield, 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Judy Klassen took second in bracket five, falling to Johnnie Sanders of Monahans, 2-2. Freshman Sadie Wheeler won bracket six, defeating freshman Michelle Guevara in the final 6-1, 6-0.
In men’s singles, sophomore Easton Swinnea took fourth place in bracket one, falling to Alex Garcia of Monahans 6-1, 7-6 (3).
In women’s doubles, the team of Villarreal and Owen took second place in bracket one, falling to Kevil and Benton of Brownfield 8-3. Avila and Segovia took first in bracket two, defeating Ryan and Zamora of Brownfield 8-4. Wheeler and Klassen took consolation in bracket three, defeating teammates Zamora and Guevara 8-2.
