Senior Kayla Coon made second place her last and best finish at the state powerlifting meet in Corpus Christi on March 16.
Coon, who lifts in the 123-pound category, hefted a combined 760 pounds to take the second spot behind Pearsall’s Brittany Flores who lifted five pounds more. This was Coon’s third trip to the state meet.
The men’s team took fourth place at the region meet in Sundown on March 9. Two lifters qualified either first or second places to compete at state in Abilene on March 24. Freshman Andrew Alvidrez took first place in the 132-pound class with a combined weight of 1,070 pounds. Senior Eric Rivas took second place in the 132-pound category, lifting a combined weight of 890 pounds.
