The golf season ended at regionals with sophomore Kayley Mull who came in 15th place at the meet in Lubbock at Meadowbrook on April 19.
Mull shot 86 and 84 strokes at Meadowbrook.
”She played really hard and just came up a little short of her goal,” Coach Mitch Shain said. “I was very proud of the way she competed. She just gets better and better each practice, and when she puts it all together. She will accomplish some great things.”
Mull said she would make some changes for next year.
“I would do several things differently,” Mull said. “I would work on my chipping and putting more during the year, not only when I need to. When it comes to regionals, I need to work on not letting my nerves take over.”
The Maiden team took an overall fifth place after three district rounds.
“We struggled a little in the last district round so unfortunately we did not qualify for regionals,” Shain said. “Ashley [Cox] narrowly missed qualifying for regionals by two strokes.”
One round made the difference.
“I believe I did OK in district if you take away the Seminole tournament,” Cox said, “but I believe I played my last round well.”
The Indian team A took fifth overall in district with Josh Nichols shooting 251 in three rounds.
“The guys were in contention for a regional spot up until the last district round,” Shain said. “The thing that hindered us the most was inexperience. We had some guys who had not played many competitive rounds, and so the inexperience sort of cost us.”
The Indian team B took eighth overall.
