A win over Fort Stockton on Oct. 26 ended the regular season for the Maiden volleyball team, but it did not end play for the year as they will meet Pecos in bi-district action on Nov. 2 in Greenwood at 7 p.m.
“Pecos is usually a team or program that fights until the end,” Coach Jackie Horton said. “They don’t quit, and they don’t give up. You never know what to expect, but you can be sure they will play hard until the match is over.”
Horton said the Maidens’ keys to success involved intensity and toughness.
“Our block has been solid along with our attack,” Horton said, “but we need to strengthen our passes and defense. We need to have a quick start.”
Team members listed several things which made them stronger.
“Our chemistry as a team is our strength,” senior Bianca Sanchez said. “Our weaknesses are in our defense and passing.”
The Maidens finished the regular season with a 5-3 district mark and 18-19 overall. They are the third place team from district into the playoffs.
“We are working on skills to get better,” Sanchez said. “To get better, we need to get focused…more into the game.”
The Maidens will play a practice game against Lubbock Coronado tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Seminole.
