The speech and debate team won the traveling sweepstakes award at the National Forensic League’s district tournament on Feb. 19.
Juniors Haylee Dodson, Jasmine Torres and senior Savanna Winn qualified for the national tournament in June. Dodson qualified in international extemporaneous speaking while Torres and Winn qualified in duo interpretation.
In domestic extemporaneous speaking, senior Reed Chappell took sixth. In dramatic interpretation, junior Brooklynn James took sixth. In duo interpretation, Torres and Winn took fourth. In cross-examination debate, Dodson and Chappell took third.
The Texas Forensics Association state contest will be held March 10-12. State qualifiers include junior Tanner Moore in domestic extemporaneous speaking, dramatic interpretation and duet acting; James in duet acting and dramatic interpretation; Chappell in cross-examination debate, duet acting and domestic extemporaneous speaking; Dodson in cross-examination debate, foreign extemporaneous speaking, domestic extemporaneous speaking and original oratory; junior Mason Griffin in duet acting; junior D.J. Rickman in duet acting; Torres in duet acting, humorous interpretation and dramatic interpretation; Winn in duet acting, dramatic interpretation and humorous interpretation; junior Angela Sims in duet acting; and senior Nate Maxwell in prose.
