UIL academic team win Permian meet

The UIL Academic team won the Permian meet on Jan. 25.

In number sense, senior Jordan Lashaway took third overall and first in the 12th grade division. Senior Skyler Franklin took fifth in the 12th grade division. In 11th grade number sense, junior Alyssa Carnes was third and junior Sarah Smith was fifth.

In ready writing, junior Yesenia Olivas was second and senior Tori Acosta was third.

The calculator team took second overall with Lashaway in second and junior Bethany Jones in sixth. In 12th grade calculator, Lashaway was first and senior Jocelin Loewen was third. In 11th grade calculator, Jones was third and Smith was fourth.

The science team took second overall, with sophomore Samuel Medrano and Loewen tying for fifth and sophomore J.J. Ayala in seventh.

The mathematics team took first overall with senior Neil Thiessen in second, Lashaway in fourth, Loewen in fifth and Smith in eighth. In 12th grade mathematics,Thiessen was first, Lashaway was third, Loewen was fourth and senior Neal Froese was sixth. In 11th grade mathematics, Smith was third, junior Nick Acosta was fifth and Olivas was sixth.

The spelling and vocabulary team took first overall with T. Acosta in first, sophomore Celestia Wilkey in second and N. Acosta in third.

The literary criticism team took second overall with senior J.D. Martin in third, senior Michelle Guevara Gonzalez in fourth, senior Katelyn Daniels in fifth and sophomore Kami Leuttgen in sixth.

The social studies team took first place with Lashaway first individually, senior Royce Snethen third, and senior Sara Fehr sixth.

The journalism team took first overall.

In newswriting, junior Eva Neufeld was first, Fehr was second and junior Amy Letekeman was third.

In feature writing, Fehr was first, Neufeld was second and Letkeman was third.

In editorial writing, Neufeld was first and Fehr was third.

In headline writing, Neufeld was second, Fehr was third and Letkeman was fourth.
