The UIL academic team took second place overall in the region meet in Lubbock on April 25 with six individuals and one-act play qualifying for state. Abilene Wylie took first and Andrews took third.

The speech team won the region championship with 95 points.

 

In prose interpretation, junior Blayne Childers took first, junior Kelby Miller took second and junior Ivan Froese took third.

In informative speaking junior Antonio Porras took second.

In Lincoln-Douglas debate junior Cassandra Schultz took third.

In persuasive speaking senior Kyle Rickman took third.

The one-act play The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail  qualified state on April 22. The theater department will send a play to state for the sixth year in a row.

Individual regional honors included best actor junior Blayne Childers; all star cast juniors Sadie Wheeler and Kelby Miller; and honorable mention cast sophomore Nikki Loewen.

The play earned 38 points toward the overall academic championship.

In poetry interpretation, junior Daniel Griffin was fourth.

In news writing, sophomore Eva Neufeld was fifth.

In editorial writing, senior Sarah Patterson was sixth.

In headline writing, Patterson was fifth.
