Tribe tennis will continue district tomorrow at Shallowater.
The team took sole possession of first place in district after defeating Brownfield on Thursday in a twice postponed match up.
On Tuesday they defeated Lamesa, 15-4.
The team made up a postponed district tournament yesterday in Brownfield, but results were not available in press time.
“The toughest team in district will definitely be Brownfield,” senior Brayden Baumgartner said. “I believe they practice a lot harder than we do, and they have more seniors. They are also more generally skilled.”
Coach John Armstrong doesn’t want to look past any district opponent.
“I believe every district opponent is tough,” Armstrong said. “There is a certain familiarity with your opponent when you see each other so many times. You can never underestimate anyone.”
Armstrong said that their team tries to improve in three areas.
“We try to improve athletically, mechanically, and mentally every day.” Armstrong said. “ If you’re struggling in one of these, then you were struggling overall.”
Junior Haylee Villanueva knows what its like to win in team tennis since she advanced to bi-district when she was a freshman.
“I believe our team has grown so much together,” Villanueva said. “Levelland was our first district win of the year, and it means a lot to our team. Everyone has been working hard for this, and I believe we will make it far together. “
