Ten Maidens qualify for area track

District runners up–The Maiden track team took second overall at the district meet with 118 points and nine area qualifiers in 14 events on March 31 and April 1.

Ten Maidens qualified for the area track meet in 14 events at the district meet in Andrews on March 31 and April 1. The varsity took second overall with 118 points, while the JV was second with 94 points.

The top four qualifiers advance to area competition in Clint on April 15.

In the 3200-meter run, senior Hailey Davis took second in a time of 13:00.73.

In the long jump, senior Robin Franklin took first with a jump of 16 feet, 10 34 inches. Sophomore Laila Gutierrez was fifth with 15 feet, 7 1/2 inches.

In pole vault, Gutierrez took third with a hit of 8 feet.

In high jump, sophomore Aeriana Langley was fourth with a height of 4 feet, 8 inches.

In triple jump, sophomore Isabella Parkey took fourth with a jump of 32 feet, 1 1/2 inches.

In discus, senior Taylor Carter took fourth with a throw of 102 feet, 5 inches.

In shot put, Carter took third with a throw of 33 feet, 9 1/4 inches.

In the 100-meter dash, Franklin was third in a time of 13.15 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, Franklin was second in a time of 27.13 seconds.

In the 1600-meter run, Davis was second in a time of 5:54.06.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Gutierrez took third in a time of 17.53 seconds.

In the 4 x 100-meter relay, the team of junior Gracie Hernandez, sophomore Yasmine White, junior Xyla Madry and Franklin took third in a time of 52.36 seconds.

In the 4 x 200-meter relay, the team of sophomore Jeslyn Alvidrez, White, Gutierrez and Parkey took second in a time of 1:53.09.

In the 4 x 400-meter relay, the team of Hernandez, White, Parkey and Davis took second in a time of  4:20.98.
