Indians qualify 11 for area track meet

District runner up–The Indian track team accumulated 126 points and 12 area qualifiers at the district meet.

The Indian track team qualified 11 athletes for area in 10 events at the district meet on March 31 and April 1. The varsity took second with 126 points overall while the JV took second with 172 points.

The top four competitors in each varsity event qualified for area competition in Clint on April 15.

In the long jump, senior Eli Beard took first with a jump of 21 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Senior Sergio Soto was second with a jump of 21 feet, 1 inch. Senior Makii Adams took fifth with a jump of 20 feet, 6 3/4 inches.

In pole vault, junior Jude Edwards took first with a height of 12 feet, 6 inches. Senior Oscar Ariza Arellano was fifth with a height of 11 feet, 6 inches.

In high jump, sophomore Blake Flowers was fourth with a height of 5 feet, 6 inches.

In triple jump, senior Kaycen Andrews was second with a distance of 42 feet, 3/4 inches. Beard took fifth with a distance of 41 feet, 1/4 inches.

In discus, junior Noe Ybaben Burciaga took sixth with a distance of 115 feet, 5 inches.

In shot put, sophomore Rikter Connally took first with a throw of 44 feet, 8 1/4 inches. Ybaben Burciaga was fifth with a throw of 40 feet, 6 1/2 inches.

In the 100-meter dash, Soto took third with a time of 11.34 seconds. Beard was sixth with a time of 11.67 seconds.

In the 400-meter run, Flowers was fifth in a time of 53.85 seconds.

In the 800-meter run, senior Micah Smith was sixth in a time of 2:14.53.

In the 110-meter hurdles, junior Andrew Banman was first in a time of 15.60 seconds. Junior Jude Edwards was fourth in a time of 16.36 seconds.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Banman was fifth in a time of 44.12 seconds. Freshman Landry Reames was sixth in a time of 45.90 seconds.

In the 4 x 100-meter relay, the team of senior Emilio Aguilar, senior Damion Espino, senior Jason Mejia and Soto took second with a time of 44.10 seconds.

In the 4 x 200-meter relay, the team of Beard, Soto, Flowers and Reames took third in a time of 1:34.86.

In the 4 x 400-meter relay, the team of Beard, Banman, Aguilar and Flowers took third in a time of 3:32.66.
