Junior qualifies for state powerlifting meet

Concentration–Junior Ian Alvidrez competes in squats during the home powerlifting meet on Feb. 2. Alvidrez, who qualified for state in second place, will compete in Abilene on March 24.

Junior Ian Alvidrez took second in the 220-pound category at the region powerlifting meet in Sundown on March 9, qualifying for state competition on March 24 in Abilene.

Alvidrez had a combined weight of 1,500 pounds, lifting 570 pounds in squat, 350 pounds in bench press and 580 pounds in deadlift. The Texas High School Powerlifting Association ranks Alvidrez in 13th in the state in his weight category although his region total would put him in seventh.
