Maiden powerlifter qualifies for state competition
State bound–Sophomore Siria Martinez bench presses during the home meet on Feb. 1. Martinez lifted a combined 785 pounds in the 181-pound category to qualify for state on March 3.
Sophomore powerlifter Siria Martinez qualified for the state meet in Waco on March 16-17 after placing second in the 181-pound category at the region meet in Monahans on March 3.
Martinez lifted a total of 785 pounds at the region meet, which included 320 pounds in squats, 145 pounds in bench press and 320 pounds in deadlift.
The Maiden team took ninth overall with six points.
