Powerlifters hosted a meet yesterday  with the Indians taking fifth place and the Maidens taking fourth. It was the first time full teams competed this season.

Two Indian lifters competed  in Big Spring on Jan. 13.

Junior Ian Alvidrez is curently tied for second in the region after his first place finish in the 220-pound division at the Big Spring meet.

“My goals for this season are to make it to state and win most of the meets,” Alvidrez said. “I’m really working to squat more than 500 pounds this season along with benching more than 340 pounds.”

Junior Ariel Delgado took third in the 220-pound weight class at Big Spring. “I’m stronger in my legs than I am my arms, so my main goals are just to make it to state or regionals in that event,” Delgado said. “I just really want to get stronger this season.”

The Maiden powerlifting team is in a state of rebuilding, with no veterans on the team.

Senior Kim Aviles, new to the Maiden team, is a two-year participate from McGregor, Texas.

“This is my first year in Seminole, and my goals for this season are just to get better and to get to state,” Aviles said. “I came really close last year with fifth in regionals.”
