Both distance teams qualify for regional competition

Both the Maiden and Indian cross country teams qualified for region competition after the Maidens took first and the Indians took third in the district meet on Oct. 12 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. Mae Simmons is also the site of the regional meet on Oct. 23.

Freshman Hailey Davis took the individual women’s championship, running the two-mile course in 12 minutes, 44.83 seconds. Of the seven runners for the Maidens, five of them finished in the top 10 as individual region qualifiers including freshman Itzel Quinonez in second, freshman Rani Allain in sixth, freshman Azalia Contreras in seventh, and junior Amanda Villalva in 10th.

The Indian team took third behind Levelland and Brownfield, with two Indian runners qualifying as individuals in addition to the team. Freshman Micah Smith took sixth and sophomore Joey Neudorf took ninth.
