GIVE AND GO– Sophomore quarterback Brett Hicks hands the ball off to senior running back Grant Petty during district action against Estacado on Oct. 31. Hicks converted for four touchdowns, while Petty rushed for over 100 yards in the Nov. 7 play-off-qualifying win over Borger.

The unpredictability of the District 1-4A continued to amaze on Nov. 7 as the Indians went from possibly hanging by a thread with a possible three-way tie for fourth place which could hinge on a coin flip to sitting in second place with a guaranteed play-off spot.

The Indians took Borger to task, 32-7, on the Bulldogs’ turf, while Levelland took an overtime win over Pampa at the same time. This put Pampa out of the playoffs because with only one win each, Levelland had the tie break over the Harvesters and Borger. Meanwhile, Seminole and Borger both had two wins and Seminole moved to second with the tie break over Borger. Estacado went undefeated in district for the 1-4A title.

The win over Borger not only cemented a play-off spot for the Indians, but also put them into bi-district against 6-4 Fabens in bi-district instead of 9-1 Andrews which would have been their fate in fourth place, but which now falls to fourth place Borger.

Coach Kent Jackson called the Indians “a formidable force” after the game as he praised the team’s determination and work ethic.

The Indians will be the visiting team in Monahans Estes Stadium on Nov. 14 against Fabens. Game time is 7 p.m. and all tickets are $5.
