The UIL academic team took second overall at the region meet on April 27, 33 points behind Canyon Randall.
First place teams in individual events as well as first through third places qualify for state on May 14-15.
Freshman Anaiah Beydoun took first in copyediting.
In feature writing, senior Ingrid Lopez Jimenez was fourth.
In headline writing, Lopez Jimenez was fifth.
In informative speaking, junior Ethan Salazar was fifth.
In mathematics, senior Eduardo Rodarte took first, and junior Jack Chen was sixth. The entire team qualified for state which includes seniors Daniel Lapusan and Gavin Dickson.
In number sense, Rodarte took third, and sophomore Eva Thiessen was sixth. The team was second overall and included senior Omar Gameros and Chen.
In persuasive speaking, Lapusan was first.
In poetry interpretation, Lapusan was first.
In prose interpretation, junior Owen Adam was first, and sophomore Kobe Cabello was third.
In science, the team of Thiessen, Dickson and junior Geydis Cuesta Rodriguez took the third place plaque.
The speech team took first place overall with 71 points.
