Speech team takes second in Midland

The speech team took second place at the Midland Lee tournament on Oct. 17.

In domestic extemporaneous speaking, senior Chris Arzate was sixth.

In foreign extemporaneous speaking senior Antonio Porras was second.

In cross examination debate, Arzate and Porras took second.

In impromptu speaking, sophomore Isabel Acosta was second. In duet acting, seniors Kolt Blackmon and Haylie Hicks took third, while senior Kelby Miller and junior Madeline Hiebert took fifth.

In poetry, senior Blayne Childers took first and junior Faith Klassen took fourth.

In dramatic interpretation, Childers took first and Miller took third.

In prose, junior Ashley Harder was first, senior Ivan Froese was fourth, Hiebert was fifth, and Childers was seventh.

In duo interpretation, Harder and junior Nikki Loewen were first, Childers and Miller were second, Froese and Hiebert were fourth, and Hicks and senior Vanessa Torres were fifth.

In humourous interpretation, Miller was first, Froese was second, Acosta was third, and Torres was fifth.

Childers was named outstanding in interpretation competition.

Arzate, Porras, Childers, Miller and Froese qualified for Texas Forensics Association state competition in March.
